The correlation between MDSCs, cancer, immunotherapy, and IL-22

Cancer is one of modern society's most prolific killers. Treatments develop slowly, and their efficiency varies from person to person. A promising new treatment is immunotherapy. However, cancer is made of self cells, which take advantage of the body's own machinery. That machinery includes MDSCs, which work to suppress the immune system.

Background

This project is based on a foundation of pre-established research and data.

An Overview of MDSCs

MDSCs are a very important part of the immune system that acts as a system of checks and balances.

Cancer and the faults of immunotherapy

Cancer is a terrible, terrible disease with no perfect treatment. Immunotherapy is a potentially effective treatment, but it has many faults and setbacks that are yet to be studied.

Interleukin 22 (IL-22)

IL-22 is an inflammatory cytokine that may play a large part in how cancer progresses. It is the focus of this research.
